WHY DID JESUS DESCEND FROM THE TRIBE OF JUDAH and NOT Another Son of Jacob?

October 27, 2026

Jesus descended from the Tribe of Judah to fulfill specific Old Testament messianic prophecies and theological requirements that established His identity as the eternal King and High Priest.

Messianic Prophecy: Jacob’s blessing in Genesis 49:10 prophesied that the scepter (royal authority) would not depart from Judah until the Messiah arrived, making Judah the designated tribe for royal lineage, culminating in King David and his descendant, Jesus.
Priestly Distinction: The Book of Hebrews (7:14) notes that Moses assigned the Levitical priesthood to the tribe of Levi; by descending from Judah, Jesus signaled a transition to a superior, eternal priesthood in the order of Melchizedek, distinct from the temporary Mosaic Law.
Rejection of Other Sons: The firstborn, Reuben, forfeited his birthright due to misconduct, and the next sons, Simeon and Levi, were excluded due to their violence and zealotry, leaving Judah as the chosen vessel for the covenant’s fulfillment.
Legal and Biological Lineage: Although Jesus had no biological human father, He was legally recognized as the son of Joseph (a descendant of David from Judah) and biologically traced to Judah through His mother, Mary, satisfying both legal adoption customs and prophetic bloodline requirements.

What Does The KJV Bible Say?

Jesus descended from the tribe of Judah to fulfill specific biblical prophecies, establish His ultimate kingly authority, and demonstrate God’s pattern of sovereign election over natural birthright. In the narrative of Genesis, Judah was neither the firstborn nor the most morally flawless son, yet he was chosen by God to hold the royal scepter, a lineage that culminates in Jesus Christ, the “Lion of the tribe of Judah.”

Scriptural Foundation: Why Judah?

The primary biblical reason Judah was selected over his brothers is found in the sovereign prophetic blessings pronounced by Jacob on his deathbed (Genesis 49), alongside the disqualification of his older brothers due to moral failures.

Brother	Natural Order	Reason for Disqualification / Selection	KJV Reference
Reuben	1st Son	Disqualified for defiling his father’s bed with Bilhah.	Genesis 49:3-4 – “Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel…”
Simeon	2nd Son	Disqualified for fierce anger and cruelty in the massacre of Shechem.	Genesis 49:5-7 – “Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce…”
Levi	3rd Son	Disqualified alongside Simeon; later set apart for the priesthood, not kingship.	Genesis 49:5-7 – “I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.”
Judah	4th Son	Chosen to hold the royal scepter and receive the praise of his brethren.	Genesis 49:8-10 – “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah…”

10 Scriptural Examples Tracking the Messianic Line of Judah

The Prophecy of the Scepter (Genesis 49:10)
“The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.”
The Tribal Preeminence in Battle (Judges 1:1-2)
“…Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up…”
The Lineage of Boaz and Ruth (Ruth 4:22)
“And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.” (Tracing the Perez-Judah line to David).
The Choice of David’s Royal House (Psalm 78:67-68)
“Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim: But chose the tribe of Judah…”
The Everlasting Covenant with David (2 Samuel 7:16)
“And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.”
The Root of Jesse Prophesied (Isaiah 11:1)
“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.”
The Ruler Out of Bethlehem Ephratah (Micah 5:2)
“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah… yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel…” (Bethlehem was located in Judah).
The Genealogy of the King (Matthew 1:1-2)
“The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham begat Isaac… and Jacob begat Judas [Judah] and his brethren.”
The Priestly Shift from Levi to Judah (Hebrews 7:14)
“For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.”
The Consumated Victory of the King (Revelation 5:5)
“…Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”

Analytic Profiles: Perspectives on Judah’s Selection

1. The Myers-Briggs (MBTI) Analyst Report

Judah’s Profile: ENFJ (The Protagonist/Giver)
The Assessment: While older brothers acted out of pure impulse (Reuben) or volatile, introverted anger (Simeon/Levi), Judah demonstrated evolving interpersonal leadership and high Extraverted Feeling (Fe). Initially flawed, he developed profound accountability. He convinced his brothers to spare Joseph (Genesis 37), but his defining “Protagonist” moment was his self-sacrificial plea to take Benjamin’s place as a slave (Genesis 44). This profound display of empathy and leadership mirrors the ultimate archetypal sacrifice of Jesus, making Judah’s psychological blueprint perfectly suited for the lineage of the ultimate Servant-King.

2. The John MacArthur Analyst Report

The Focus: Sovereign Grace and Biblical Inerrancy
The Assessment: “The choosing of Judah is a monumental monument to the doctrine of God’s sovereign, electing grace. Judah was not chosen because he was inherently righteous—let us not forget his moral failure with Tamar in Genesis 38. He was chosen because God wills to choose whom He wills to choose. Reuben, Simeon, and Levi disqualified themselves through their sin, proving that the flesh cannot inherit the ultimate promise. God bypassed the natural order of birthright to show that salvation is entirely of the Lord, culminating in Christ, who perfectly fulfilled the Genesis 49:10 ‘Shiloh’ prophecy as the ultimate Lawgiver and King.”

3. The Paul Washer Analyst Report

The Focus: Repentance, Brokenness, and Substitutionary Atonement
The Assessment: “Look at the stark contrast between Judah and his older brothers. When confronted with their guilt, the others hid. But Judah, in Genesis 44, stands before the ruler of Egypt and offers his own life as a substitute for his brother Benjamin. He says, ‘Let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman.’ This is the gospel in seed form! Jesus did not descend from a line of self-righteous moralists; He came through a line of broken men who understood their desperate need for mercy and learned the weight of substitutionary sacrifice. Judah’s willingness to become a curse for his brother foreshadows Christ becoming a curse for us on the tree.”

4. The Greg Gilbert / Theological Analyst Report (Approximating Greg Schad/Scholarly Consensus)

The Focus: Covenantal Theology and Structural Redemptive History
The Assessment: “From a structural standpoint in redemptive history, the shift to Judah is a transition from patriarchal blessing to explicit federal headship. By placing the scepter in Judah’s line, God structurally separated the priestly duties (eventually given to Levi) from the kingly duties (given to Judah). This intentional separation created a theological deficit that could only be reconciled by a future figure who was both King and Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Jesus, coming from Judah, legally inherits the Davidic throne, fulfilling the structural framework of the Old Covenant while inaugurating the New.”

5. The Jordan Peterson Analyst Report

The Focus: The Archetype of the Transformed Character and Taking Responsibility
The Assessment: “It’s a deeply profound psychological narrative. Judah starts out as a deeply compromised figure—he’s cynical enough to sell his own brother Joseph into slavery for twenty pieces of silver. He’s fractured. But then he encounters the tragic reality of his own hypocrisy through Tamar, and something shifts inside him. He integrates his shadow. By the time he stands before Joseph in Egypt, he doesn’t dodge the catastrophe; he steps forward and offers himself up. He takes voluntary responsibility for the suffering of his family. That’s the pivot. The lineage of the Messiah doesn’t come through the pristine, untouched firstborn; it comes through the man who faced his own capacity for evil, voluntarily bore the cross of responsibility, and was transformed by it.”

6. The Carl Jung Analyst Report

The Focus: The Integration of the Shadow and the Self Archetype
The Assessment: “Judah represents the individuation process of the collective Israelite psyche. He is a figure who fully acted out his shadow—participating in the betrayal of Joseph and succumbing to unconscious anima projections with Tamar. However, instead of repressing his guilt, Judah recognized it, famously stating, ‘She hath been more righteous than I.’ This psychological integration allowed him to transcend his fractured state and emerge as the unifying Self archetype for the brothers. Jesus descending from Judah signifies that the divine avatar (the Christ archetype) does not emerge from psychological sterility or perfection, but from the messy, integrated depths of human shadow and realized consciousness.”

Father God, Let Your Will Be Done, Not My Will mademanministries

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
