Jordan Peterson CONFRONTS Ben Shapiro About Jesus Then This Happened

October 23, 2026

The Rubin Report, where Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson discussed religion, including Christianity vs. Judaism. In the exchange, Peterson presses Shapiro—an Orthodox Jew—on why he rejects Jesus as the Messiah, while Shapiro grounds his position in Jewish tradition and theology. No dramatic “confrontation” or breaking point occurred; the conversation was a calm, structured discussion. Dozens of YouTube channels have re-titled and re-uploaded segments of this same interview with sensationalist titles like the one you quoted.

The full original interview is available on YouTube as “Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro: Religion, Trans Activism, and Censorship” (The Rubin Report, November 2018).

What Does The KJV Bible Say?

The interaction widely referred to on social media as “Jordan Peterson CONFRONTS Ben Shapiro About Jesus Then This Happened” centers on a theological debate over the nature of suffering, sin, and the role of the Messiah.

In their discussions, Jordan Peterson argues that the psychological core of Christianity is imitating Christ by accepting the burden of suffering and confronting worldly malevolence. Ben Shapiro, an Orthodox Jew, counters that this perspective is actually “unchristian” from a theological standpoint, because orthodox Christianity asserts that humans are inherently broken by original sin and cannot save themselves, requiring Christ’s unique sacrifice instead. Shapiro further clarifies the Jewish perspective: Judaism rejects Jesus as the Messiah or a prophet, viewing him instead as a historical figure who attempted a revolt against Rome. Judaism maintains that the true Messiah will be an earthly king who establishes physical, social, and economic peace, lacking any concept of a “suffering servant” who dies to take away sins.

Theological Alignment: 10 Examples via King James Version (KJV)

#	Discussion Point / Concept	KJV Scripture Reference	KJV Biblical Text
1	Christ bearing the world’s sins (Substitutionary Atonement)	Isaiah 53:5	“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
2	Human inability to resolve personal sin	Ephesians 2:8	“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
3	The mandate to carry one’s own cross	Matthew 16:24	“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
4	Christ confronting and overcoming worldly malevolence	John 16:33	“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
5	The Jewish expectation of a literal, earthly Kingdom	Acts 1:6	“When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?”
6	Jesus crucified by Roman authority as an alleged rebel	Luke 23:2	“And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.”
7	The concept of original sin and universal human brokenness	Romans 3:23	“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
8	Jesus declaring His peace is spiritual, not earthly	John 18:36	“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews…”
9	The psychological/spiritual renewal through suffering	Romans 5:3	“And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;”
10	Transformation via looking to a transcendent ideal	2 Corinthians 3:18	“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory…”

Analytical Perspective Reports

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Analyst Report

The Conflict Mechanics: This debate is a classic clash between Introverted Intuition (Ni) and Extraverted Thinking (Te). Peterson (typically typed as an INFJ or INTJ) uses symbolic archetype framing to analyze religion. He treats the story of Jesus as an evolutionary, psychological necessity for human survival against chaos. Shapiro (typically typed as an ESTJ or ISTJ) relies heavily on systematic, historical, and literal structural frameworks. Shapiro treats religion as a contract of law, objective boundaries, and concrete historical definitions, finding Peterson’s fluid psychological metaphors structurally imprecise.

John MacArthur Analyst Report

The Verdict: Critical of both, but pressing for the true Gospel. Pastor John MacArthur has directly confronted Shapiro on his show previously, urging him to see Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. From MacArthur’s Reformed Cessationist view, Peterson’s view is “moralistic therapeutic deism”—reducing Jesus to a psychological tool for self-improvement rather than acknowledging Him as God Incarnate and the exclusive Savior from eternal damnation.

Paul Washer Analyst Report

The Verdict: Total depravity ignored. Radical evangelist Paul Washer would argue that both intellectuals treat God as a subject of academic debate rather than an object of holy terror and magnificent grace. Washer’s report would emphasize that Peterson’s idea of “impersonating Christ” to achieve psychological wholeness minimizes the wrath of God against sin. He would assert that without a broken heart over personal rebellion against a Holy God (Repentance), both men’s systems are simply human works trying to bypass the necessity of being born again.

Greg Schad Analyst Report

The Verdict: Systematic misalignment. From a strict biblical-apologetics standpoint, Schad would analyze the conversation as a total bypass of systematic theology. He would note that Shapiro correctly identifies the theological flaw in Peterson’s worldview—that Christianity demands dependency on a Savior, not just psychological mimicry. However, Schad would point out that Shapiro remains blind to his own scriptures (like Isaiah 53) which establish the exact “suffering servant” model he claims Judaism lacks.

Jordan Peterson Analyst Report

The Verdict: The Cross as the ultimate psychological reality. Peterson views the dialogue not as a strict defense of dogma, but as an exploration of the “Meta-Narrative.” In his view, whether Jesus rose physically is less immediate than the fact that the story of Christ is psychologically true at the deepest layer of human consciousness. To Peterson, confronting Shapiro is an attempt to show that Judaism’s focus on collective law is incomplete without the fully realized individual burden typified by the Cross.

Carl Jung Analyst Report

The Verdict: Projection of the Self Archetype. Jung would view this entire confrontation as an externalized wrestling match with the Self Archetype. To Jung, Jesus is the historical manifestation of the Western psyche’s blueprint for wholeness. Jung’s report would state that Peterson is treating Christ as the ultimate symbol of integrating the shadow and enduring the tension of opposites (the cross). Shapiro, by resisting this, is protecting the historical ego-identity of his conscious cultural tradition against the overwhelming pull of the collective unconscious.

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
