The Church Has a Cancel Culture Problem
Cancel culture is increasingly prevalent within Christian communities, manifesting as the social media-driven exclusion, blacklisting, or shunning of individuals who express unpopular theological views, hold controversial political stances, or deviate from perceived community norms. This phenomenon has been identified by surveys as affecting 48% of evangelical leaders, who report being disinvited or marginalized, while critics argue that the church has historically practiced similar exclusion through excommunication and shunning.
Theological and pastoral responses emphasize the lack of mercy and grace inherent in cancel culture, which critics argue contradicts the Christian call to forgive and recognize that all people are sinners with futures. Many leaders and writers warn that this culture creates fear, stifles honest dialogue, and drives young people away from the faith, while others note that Christians often condemn the practice when applied to themselves despite historically engaging in it toward others.
Proposed solutions focus on replacing cancellation with discipleship and accountability, advocating for community-based approaches that allow for confession, growth, and restoration rather than immediate ostracization. Some perspectives also distinguish between harmful “cancel culture” and necessary accountability for abuse or heresy, suggesting that the church must develop discernment to avoid both unchecked sin and the punitive exclusion characteristic of modern cancel culture.
What Does The KJV Bible Say?
The analysis below uses King James Version (KJV) scripture, provides historical and modern examples, and examines this issue through several analytical lenses.
KJV Scriptural Table: Confronting Cancel Culture
The Bible repeatedly addresses the temptation to prematurely judge, condemn, or permanently exile others.
| # | KJV Reference | Core Biblical Command / Concept | Antidote to Cancel Culture |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Matthew 7:1-2 | “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged…” | Humility and avoiding self-righteous double standards. |
| 2 | John 8:7 | “…He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” | Recognition of universal human fallenness before executing judgment. |
| 3 | Galatians 6:1 | “…restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” | Prioritizing gentle restoration over permanent excommunication. |
| 4 | Luke 6:37 | “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven” | Replacing final condemnation with active forgiveness. |
| 5 | James 4:12 | “There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?” | Relinquishing the role of ultimate moral executioner to God. |
| 6 | Romans 14:4 | “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth…” | Respecting individual conscience and God’s sovereignty over a person. |
| 7 | Ephesians 4:32 | “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” | Extending the same unconditional vertical grace horizontally to others. |
| 8 | Proverbs 18:13 | “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.” | Rejecting reactionary, internet-mob outrage without first seeking truth. |
| 9 | Colossians 3:13 | “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any…” | Exercising long-suffering and tolerance for personal differences. |
| 10 | Matthew 18:15 | “…go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” | Handling conflict privately rather than relying on public call-outs. |
10 Examples of “Cancel Culture” Dynamics in Church History & Practice
- The Public “Call-Out” Over Secondary Doctrines: Ostracizing a believer or pastor over non-essential theological differences (e.g., views on the End Times or specific worship styles).
- The “Scarlet Letter” Effect: Treating a fallen leader or member as permanently disqualified from the family of God, completely ignoring their path to repentance.
- Guilt by Association: “Canceling” a Christian speaker or author simply because they sat on a stage or did an interview with someone deemed controversial.
- The Pharisaic Stoning (John 8): The ultimate historical example where religious leaders attempted to publicly shame and destroy a woman caught in sin to score political points.
- The Galatian Exclusionary Crisis: Early church legalists attempting to “cancel” or exclude Gentile believers who did not adhere to circumcision laws.
- Social Media Heresy Hunting: Digital mobs of believers coordinating attacks against Christian public figures over a poorly phrased tweet or comment.
- Excommunication Without Matthew 18 Protocols: Churches or leadership boards removing people abruptly to protect a brand, completely bypassing private, restorative conversations.
- The Corinthian Ostracization: An example in the early church where the community was so severe in their discipline that Paul had to step in and command them to forgive and comfort the man so he wouldn’t be “swallowed up with overmuch sorrow” (2 Corinthians 2:7).
- Tribal Political Litmus Tests: Ostracizing members who do not vote identically or speak matching political rhetoric, elevating political alignment over biblical unity.
- The Erasure of Legacy: Scrapping a historical Christian figure’s entire catalog of work, music, or theology because of a singular discovered flaw, ignoring nuanced truth.
Analyst Reports: Perspectives on Church Cancel Culture
1. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Analytical Lens
- The Conflict: Cancel culture in religious settings often stems from an unhealthy clash between Judging (J) and Perceiving (P) traits, as well as Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F) dynamics.
- The Analysis: High-
Jenvironments (which prize order, strict structure, and swift closure) can easily turn disciplinary frameworks into rigid execution chambers when unhealthy. When combined with a highly dogmaticT(Logic/Truth over relational harmony), the system calculates that removing the “faulty cog” is the logical choice to keep the community pure. - The MBTI Solution: The Church must intentionally leverage healthy
F(Feeling/Empathy) andP(Perceiving/Openness) traits to slow down judgment, look at contextual nuances, and humanize the individual over the rule.
2. John MacArthur Analyst Report (The Perspective of Truth & Discipline)
- The Focus: Biblical separation, doctrinal purity, and authentic church discipline.
- The Analysis: From this theological framework, what the secular world calls “cancel culture” must not be confused with legitimate, loving biblical church discipline (Matthew 18; 1 Corinthians 5). True church discipline is meant to protect the flock from wolves and win back the wandering believer. However, MacArthur’s framework warns against unbiblical canceling—such as compromising truth for cultural trends or using emotional outrage rather than scripture to push people out.
- The Verdict: The problem isn’t that the church disciplines too much; it’s that it disciplines incorrectly. It often ignores clear patterns of sin while weaponizing tertiary theological differences for tribal compliance.
3. Jordan Peterson Analyst Report (The Psychological & Archetypal Lens)
- The Focus: Ideological possession, the scapegoat mechanism, and lack of self-reflection.
- The Analysis: Peterson often highlights that cancel culture is driven by a psychological desire to externalize evil. By “canceling” another person, the religious crowd artificially cleanses themselves of their own shadows without doing the difficult internal “soul work.” This mirrors the archetypal scapegoat mechanism: loading the sins of the community onto one person and driving them into the wilderness.
- The Verdict: When the Church adopts cancel culture, it behaves like an ideological mob rather than a spiritual hospital. It forgets the foundational premise that “the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being.”
4. Paul Washer Analyst Report (The Perspective of Repentance & Grace)
- The Focus: The radical nature of the Gospel, total depravity, and holiness.
- The Analysis: This perspective cuts through religious hypocrisy by reminding the church of its own starting point: every believer was completely bankrupt before a holy God. If God “canceled” based on performance or immediate perfection, everyone would be condemned. Therefore, a church that eagerly cancels others reveals that it does not truly understand the depth of its own sin or the weight of the grace it has received.
- The Verdict: True holiness leads to weeping over a brother’s sin and walking with them through a painful, messy process of deep repentance. Cancel culture is a lazy, superficial shortcut used by a carnal church to look holy without carrying the heavy cross of restorative love.

This is a major important point about forgiveness
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV
Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?
I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.
When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.
We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.
Women are looking for a fathers love
Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.
Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.
Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)
In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

Spiritual Order – In The Family and Church

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.
All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

After Reading The Passage I would Recommend Doing A Silent Prayer
Its is said: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 King James Version (KJV)

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
