The Reformed View: Female Pastors

The Reformed view on female pastors is not monolithic, but rather divided into two primary theological camps: complementarianism and egalitarianism. While the majority of major Reformed denominations and theologians historically hold to complementarianism, significant portions of the tradition now permit or practice egalitarianism.

Complementarianism is the historic and most common Reformed position. It holds that while men and women are equal in value and dignity, God has assigned distinct roles in the home and church. Based on interpretations of 1 Timothy 2:12 and 1 Timothy 3, complementarians argue that the offices of elder and pastor (which involve teaching and exercising authority over men) are restricted to men. This view asserts that these restrictions are based on creation ordinances (Adam created before Eve) rather than cultural context, and thus remain binding today. Prominent theologians like R.C. Sproul and John MacArthur have argued that while women may teach other women or children, they cannot hold the office of elder or preach with authoritative jurisdiction over men.

Egalitarianism argues that the biblical prohibitions were cultural responses to specific first-century contexts and that the New Testament principle of Galatians 3:28 (“neither male nor female”) applies to church leadership. Egalitarians believe women can be called by God to the pastoral office and should have equal opportunity to preach, teach, and exercise authority. This view is held by several major Reformed denominations, including the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), the Reformed Church in America (RCA), and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC), though practices can vary by presbytery or classis within those bodies.

Key Denominational Stances:

CRCNA: Allows local classes and congregations to ordain women to all offices (minister, elder, deacon), recognizing two perspectives that both honor Scripture.
PCA & OPC: Strictly complementarian; women are not ordained as elders or pastors.
PC(USA), ECO, EPC: Generally allow the ordination of women to all offices, though some congregations may opt out.
Independent Reformed Churches: Often hold to a stricter complementarian view, sometimes prohibiting women from even teaching in mixed-gender settings.

Ultimately, whether one is considered “Reformed” while supporting female pastors depends on the specific theological boundaries of the denomination or community. Many within the tradition view this as a secondary issue not essential to salvation, while others view it as a critical matter of biblical authority and church order.

What Does The KJV Bible Say?

The Reformed view, grounded in King James Version (KJV) scripture, holds that the pastoral office and elder authority are restricted to men, based on the creation order and apostolic practice. 1 Timothy 2:12 states, “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence,” and 1 Timothy 3:1-2 requires a bishop to be “the husband of one wife.” Titus 1:5-6 similarly specifies elders must be “the husband of one wife.” While women are affirmed in ministry (e.g., Phoebe as a servant in Romans 16:1, Priscilla teaching in Acts 18:26, and Deborah leading in Judges 4), they are not to hold the governing office of pastor or elder over men.

Analytical Reports

John MacArthur Analysis
MacArthur argues that the prohibition is creation-based, not cultural, citing 1 Timothy 2:13-14. He asserts that Paul forbids women from the office of pastor/teacher but allows teaching in other contexts (e.g., to children or other women). He views the ordination of women as a rebellion against biblical order that leads to church confusion. Paul Washer Analysis

Peterson does not hold a Reformed theological position but offers a psychological/analytical perspective. He often cites 1 Timothy 2:12 as reflecting archetypal structures of hierarchy and order. He argues that the prohibition is not about women’s inferiority but about maintaining social and spiritual order. He suggests that women are better at horizontal relationships (community) while men are better at vertical leadership (hierarchy). He views the role of the pastor as a mythological figure of authority that is traditionally male.

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.
