How did Jesus and the 12 Apostles Fund the Ministry and Who was Funding Them? — Their Names Revealed
Jesus and the Twelve Apostles did not receive salaries or generate significant independent income; instead, their itinerant ministry was funded primarily by wealthy female patrons and occasional contributions from male benefactors. The Gospels specifically name Mary Magdalene, Joanna (wife of Herod’s steward Chuza), and Susanna as key figures who provided for the group out of their own resources, likely due to their healing by Jesus.
Beyond these primary donors, the ministry received support from:
- Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus: Wealthy men of stature who contributed to the mission.
- Matthew (Levi): A former tax collector whose considerable wealth likely helped fund the apostolic corps, though he often contributed anonymously to avoid stigma.
- Apostolic Labor: The disciples occasionally earned money by fishing and selling their catch, which was turned over to the group treasury.
Judas Iscariot served as the official treasurer of the group, managing the funds collected from these sources. However, biblical accounts note that Judas was an embezzler who stole from this common purse, while other apostles like Peter, Andrew, and John originally worked as fishermen before leaving their trades to follow Jesus.
What Does The KJV Bible Say?
The financial framework of Jesus’ earthly ministry stands as a profound biblical case study in stewardship, faith, and institutional structure. According to the King James Version (KJV) text, Jesus and His twelve apostles sustained their intensive traveling ministry through the personal assets of a devoted group of patrons—primarily independent, wealthy women—supplemented by communal hospitality and a structured central treasury managed by a designated officer.
Core KJV Scriptures and Structural Framework
The operational mechanics of Christ’s ministry relied heavily on a localized network of supporters. Rather than utilizing systemic institutional taxing or solicitation, the treasury was supplied by voluntary gifts from individuals who had been directly impacted by Jesus’ work.
1. The Financial Patrons (Luke 8:1–3 KJV)
“And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.”
2. The Internal Management and Treasury (John 13:29 KJV)
“For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.”
Comprehensive Summary of Ministry Funding
The following table contextualizes how the ministry sustained its logistical demands (travel, food, clothing, and philanthropy) according to the biblical record:
| Financial Element / Patron | KJV Scripture Reference | Operational Role / Source of Wealth |
|---|---|---|
| Joanna (Wife of Chuza) | Luke 8:3 | High-ranking societal wealth; husband managed the estate of King Herod Antipas. |
| Mary Magdalene | Luke 8:2, Mark 15:41 | Provided directly out of her own independent personal estate and assets. |
| Susanna | Luke 8:3 | Dedicated private resources alongside the wider group of female patrons. |
| Judas Iscariot (The Bag) | John 12:6, John 13:29 | Acted as the ministry’s official treasurer, tracking incoming funds and disbursing payments. |
| The “Many Others” | Luke 8:3, Mark 15:41 | Unnamed benefactors who followed Jesus from Galilee to secure ongoing daily supplies. |
| Communal Hospitality | Matthew 10:11, Luke 10:7 | Localized structural reliance on the homes of designated “worthy” hosts while traveling. |
| Joseph of Arimathea | Matthew 27:57–60 | An exceptionally wealthy member of the Sanhedrin who provided premium capital assets (the tomb). |
| Nicodemus | John 19:39 | A wealthy ruler of the Jews who financed late-stage high-value resources (costly burial spices). |
| Supernatural Emergency Supply | Matthew 17:27 | Occasional direct providential intervention to satisfy mandatory legal/civic duties (temple tax). |
| The Transformed Tax Ledger | Matthew 9:9 | Structural knowledge input; Matthew’s administrative skills likely aided orderly internal metrics. |
10 Concrete Examples of Financial Reality in the KJV Text
- The Internal Treasury Bag: John 12:6 explicitly confirms that the group maintained a mobile cash repository (“the bag”) containing collective funds used to pay for provisions and regular charitable distribution.
- Herodian Court Capital: The inclusion of Joanna in Luke 8:3 shows that the ministry drew strategic financial backing from top-tier political households connected directly to Herod’s palace.
- Galilean Supply Line Logistics: Mark 15:40–41 recounts that a dedicated team of women routinely followed Jesus throughout His geographic campaigns, systematically providing physical support.
- The Taskings of the Treasurer: John 13:29 reveals that the ministry routinely authorized significant cash transactions out of their central fund for complex holiday logistics (“buy those things that we have need of against the feast”).
- Direct Institutional Philanthropy: The same verse (John 13:29) reveals that the community at large expected Jesus’ organization to possess enough fluid cash flow to routinely dispense financial aid directly to local paupers.
- The Civic Tax Exemption/Provision: In Matthew 17:24–27, when confronted by authorities over the temple tax, Jesus chooses a targeted supernatural mechanism to securely acquire exact currency from a fish’s mouth without depleting the central operational bag.
- The Mandated Cost-Efficiency of Short-Term Missions: In Matthew 10:9–10, Jesus instructs the twelve to completely forgo traveling cash reserves (“Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses”), shifting the exact economic burden entirely onto local baseline hospitality.
- The Logistics of Commercial Housing: Mark 1:29–31 and Mark 2:1 describe a semi-permanent strategic base camp utilizing Simon Peter’s home in Capernaum, lowering overhead traveling costs.
- High-Value Late Corporate Sponsorship: John 19:39 documents Nicodemus supplying a staggering weight of about a hundred pounds of myrrh and aloes—a massively expensive luxury purchase in the ancient economy.
- The Capital Donation of Real Estate: Matthew 27:60 states that Joseph of Arimathea relinquished a pristine, newly carved rock tomb, absorbing a substantial personal property loss for the immediate burial logistics of Christ.
Multidisciplinary Analyst Reports
1. John MacArthur Analyst Report (Expository & Sovereign Grace Lens)
- The Theological Focus: Complete divine sovereignty operating through ordinary, unmerited human vessels.
- Analysis: MacArthur emphasizes that Jesus purposefully avoided relying on high-ranking religious institutions or political networks in Jerusalem. Instead, God uniquely moved the hearts of individual saints to sustain the ministry. The inclusion of wealthy women—and a reformed tax collector—stands as a striking testament to Christ’s saving grace. The presence of a dedicated treasury managed by Judas proves that Jesus supported an orderly, highly functional, and above-reproach system of internal administration, even while living in voluntary earthly humility.
2. Paul Washer Analyst Report (Heart-Searching & Radical Devotion Lens)
- The Theological Focus: Total surrender, holy cross-bearing, and an absolute rejection of the prosperity gospel.
- Analysis: Washer highlights the severe, uncompromising reality of Luke 9:58 (“the Son of man hath not where to lay his head”). The financial model of Christ was not built around accumulation, commercialization, or luxury. The patrons did not invest to receive earthly power or social returns; they gave out of a deep sense of brokenness, gratitude, and holy fear. For Washer, the fact that the holy Son of God relied on the simple hospitality of others stands as a sharp rebuke to modern, cash-driven ministry paradigms.
3. Greg Schad Analyst Report (Strategic Ministry Operations Lens)
- The Operational Focus: Scalability, risk management, and administrative order.
- Analysis: Schad evaluates the ministry as an agile, highly efficient non-profit structure. By pairing long-term capital backing (the Galilean patrons) with a highly decentralized operational approach (the local hospitality mandate), the ministry dramatically limited its fixed overhead costs. Designating a single treasury officer (Judas) allowed the apostolic staff to focus fully on core execution (preaching and healing) without drowning in daily administrative stress. The calculated deployment of the disciples in localized pairs shows a brilliant grasp of logistical optimization and market reach.
4. Jordan Peterson Analyst Report (Psychological & Archetypal Lens)
- The Psychological Focus: Voluntary responsibility, psychological order, and the confrontation of systemic chaos.
- Analysis: Peterson analyzes the funding dynamic as a fascinating interplay of reciprocal social contracts and profound psychological transformation. The individuals backing the ministry were not acting out of aimless guilt; they were voluntarily dedicating hard-earned resources to support a vision of ultimate truth and moral order. Judas managing the bag represents the necessary, practical integration of the pragmatic world into a high-level spiritual mission. Peterson notes that the women stepping out of rigid, traditional societal lines to fund Jesus underscores the sheer psychological power of Christ’s message to break old social structures and reorient individual responsibility.
5. Carl Jung Analyst Report (Psychoanalytic & Shadow Integration Lens)
- The Psychoanalytic Focus: Archetypes of the Anima/Animus, the Self, and Shadow dynamics.
- Analysis: From a Jungian perspective, the financial backing provided by women like Mary Magdalene represents the crucial integration of the Anima—the nurturing, sustaining feminine force—acting as a necessary counterweight to the intense, outward-focused Animus of the apostolic mission. The collective treasury bag serves as a potent symbol of shared worldly reality. Judas Iscariot holding the bag acts as the archetypal manifestation of the Shadow within the group’s collective psychology—proving that even the most elevated spiritual pursuits remain fundamentally tied to the darker, material elements of human nature.
6. Myers-Briggs (MBTI) Analyst Report (Personality Dynamic Lens)
- The Psychological Focus: Functional stack utilization and organizational alignment.
- Analysis: The ministry’s financial model shows a brilliant balance of diverse personality archetypes:
- The Patrons (INFJ/ISFJ): Driven by deep internal values and personal experience, they used their sensing and feeling traits to anticipate and quietly handle the group’s immediate, practical needs.
- Judas Iscariot (ESTJ/ISTJ): Selected for his high organizational focus and pragmatic, detail-oriented approach to monitoring assets and regulating cash flow.
- Matthew (ISTJ): A systematic thinker whose background in detailed ledger keeping brought vital analytical balance to a team otherwise heavy on expressive, action-oriented types (like Peter, an ESFP).

This is a major important point about forgiveness
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV
Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?
I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.
When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.
We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.
Women are looking for a fathers love
Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.
Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.
Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)
In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.
All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

After Reading The Passage I would Recommend Doing A Silent Prayer
Its is said: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 King James Version (KJV)

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
