Why God Makes Us Wait Before Giving Us What We Want
God makes us wait not to punish us, but to prepare us for what He has promised, ensuring we are spiritually and character-wise ready to handle the blessing responsibly. This delay is often a divine tool for transformation, shifting our focus from the gift itself to a deeper relationship with Him.
Key reasons for this waiting include:
- Character Development: Waiting builds perseverance and maturity, stripping away pride and impatience so we do not ruin blessings through immaturity.
- Spiritual Growth: It enlarges the capacity of our souls, increasing our desire and teaching us to rely on faith rather than immediate gratification.
- Divine Timing: God’s schedule is perfect; He waits to align circumstances, people, and opportunities for a greater plan that we cannot yet see.
- Better Outcomes: God often withholds immediate desires to provide something significantly better, as seen in biblical examples like Abraham waiting for a nation or Jesus waiting until the “fullness of time” to begin His ministry.
What Does The KJV Bible Say?
God commands or orchestrates periods of waiting to refine our character, realign our desires with His absolute sovereignty, and manifest His perfect timing. According to the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, waiting is not an empty delay but an active, purposeful period of spiritual maturation. Below is a comprehensive, multi-perspective breakdown exploring the spiritual, psychological, and philosophical mechanics of divine delay.
Why God Makes Us Wait: 10 Biblical Themes (KJV)
| # | Purpose of Waiting | Core Spiritual Mechanism | Key KJV Verse |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Renewing Strength | Exchanging human exhaustion for divine empowerment. | Isaiah 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles…” |
| 2 | Refining Character | Melting away fleshly impatience to produce endurance. | Romans 5:3-4 – “…knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope…” |
| 3 | Testing Faith | Proving the sincerity of our belief through trial. | James 1:3 – “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” |
| 4 | Realigning Desires | Preventing us from pursuing harmful or worldly desires. | James 4:3 – “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” |
| 5 | Establishing Sovereignty | Reminding the believer who is ultimately in control. | Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God…” |
| 6 | Inheriting Promises | Coupling active faith with prolonged patience. | Hebrews 6:12 – “…but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” |
| 7 | Cultivating Quiet Hope | Breaking the habit of complaining or forcing outcomes. | Lamentations 3:26 – “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.” |
| 8 | Revealing Divine Timing | Teaching that God’s schedule operates beyond human limits. | Habakkuk 2:3 – “For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come…” |
| 9 | Deepening Devotion | Forcing the heart to desire the Giver more than the gift. | Psalm 27:14 – “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart…” |
| 10 | Delivering Manifest Good | Demonstrating God’s ultimate benevolence to the faithful. | Isaiah 64:4 – “…neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.” |
10 Biblical Examples of Divine Waiting
- Abraham and Sarah (25 Years): Waited a quarter-century for the birth of Isaac. God delayed to prove that fulfillment was entirely supernatural, occurring well past their childbearing years (Genesis 21:1-2).
- Joseph (13 Years): Endured betrayal, false imprisonment, and slavery before ascending to the throne of Egypt. The wait built the administrative wisdom and humility required to save nations from famine (Genesis 50:20).
- Moses (40 Years): Spent four decades tending sheep in the Midian desert. This systematically broke his self-reliance and transformed a hot-headed prince into the meekest man on Earth, ready to lead Israel (Exodus 3).
- The Israelites (40 Years): Wandered the wilderness to strip Egypt out of their hearts, allowing a faithless generation to pass so a new, battle-tested generation could inherit Canaan (Deuteronomy 8:2).
- David (Approx. 15 Years): Anointed king as a teenager but spent years running for his life from Saul. The caves and trials trained him to be a shepherd-king who relied entirely on God’s protection (1 Samuel 24).
- Hannah (Years of Barrenness): Suffered intense emotional grief while waiting for a child. The delay deepened her prayer life, ensuring that when Samuel was finally born, she was ready to consecrate him entirely to God’s service (1 Samuel 1).
- Job (Months of Intense Suffering): Waited amidst utter ruin and confusing silence. His period of waiting shattered shallow theology and culminated in a vastly deeper personal revelation of God’s majesty (Job 42).
- The Disciples (10 Days): Commanded by Jesus to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. This structured delay forced unity, intense prayer, and a state of complete reliance before the power of Pentecost was unleashed (Acts 1:4).
- The Man at the Pool of Bethesda (38 Years): Waited nearly four decades for physical healing. His long-term helplessness set the stage for a dramatic, undeniable miracle by Christ that bypassed all human traditions (John 5).
- Lazarus’ Sisters, Mary and Martha (4 Days): Jesus deliberately delayed his arrival after hearing Lazarus was sick. He waited until Lazarus was dead and buried so that he could reveal himself not just as a healer, but as the Resurrection and the Life (John 11).
Analyst Reports: Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives
1. Myers-Briggs (MBTI) Psychological Profile
- The Problem: The human psyche naturally craves Closure and Certainty. “Judging” (J) types feel psychological distress under prolonged ambiguity, attempting to force outcomes prematurely. “Perceiving” (P) types may default to aimless drift without external structure.
- The Analytical View: Divine waiting acts as a profound psychological conditioning tool. It forces a cognitive shift from Extroverted Agility (manipulating external environments to get immediate results) to Introverted Growth (building internal resilience, shadow integration, and emotional maturity).
- The Impact: Waiting breaks compulsive behavioral loops. It forces individuals to develop delayed gratification, moving them toward a highly individuated, balanced psychological state where identity is rooted internally rather than anchored to fleeting external validations.
2. John MacArthur Theological Analysis
- The Problem: Modern “Christianity” is plagued by a superficial, transactional view of God—treating Him like a celestial vending machine driven by human whims.
- The Analytical View: God makes believers wait to expose their true motives and safeguard His own glory. Waiting is a tool of sanctification that systematically purges self-will and the false doctrine of self-sovereignty. If God answered every prayer instantly, humans would worship the blessings rather than the Creator.
- The Impact: Waiting forces the believer to submit to the absolute providence and decree of God. It shifts focus away from “What can I get from God?” to “How can I be conformed to the image of His Son?” True faith shines brightest when it trusts God in the dark.
3. Jordan Peterson Philosophical Evaluation
- The Problem: Human beings inherently desire cheap, unearned status and immediate utopian satisfaction. This breeds resentment, fragility, and a total lack of character.
- The Analytical View: You cannot handle what you want because you have not integrated the necessary responsibility to manage its weight. The “wait” is the arduous journey through the underworld—the desert of voluntary discipline. If you receive the kingdom before you develop the character to rule yourself, the kingdom will crush you.
- The Impact: Waiting is the process of sacrificing immediate gratification for long-term psychological and spiritual competence. It forces you to put your internal house in perfect order. The delay ensures that when the objective is finally attained, you possess the structural integrity required to bear the load without collapsing into arrogance or corruption.
4. Paul Washer Radical Discipleship Assessment
- The Problem: The modern church is filled with carnal professors who want the promises of God without the cross of Christ. They want comfort without crucifixion.
- The Analytical View: God makes us wait because He is deeply committed to our holiness, not our immediate earthly happiness. Waiting is a crushing mechanism. It exposes the hidden idolatry of our hearts, revealing how much we rely on our own strength and fleshly schemes.
- The Impact: The silence of God during a season of waiting strips away all superficiality. It forces a true disciple to their knees in brokenness and absolute surrender. God delays to kill your self-reliance, ensuring that when the breakthrough arrives, your hands are completely empty and He alone receives 100% of the praise.
As You seek understanding and clarity in your life you should always turn to your Heavenly Father for Guidance

This is a major important point about forgiveness
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV
Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?
I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.
When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.
We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.
Women are looking for a fathers love
Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.
Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.
Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)
In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

Spiritual Order – In The Family and Church
God the father
Jesus Christ
Father (Men over women)
Mother (Women over children)
Here is Book, Chapter and Verse from the Kings James Version 1 Corinthian 11:2-16, But the main message is in 1 Corinthian 11:3: “3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.
All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

After Reading The Passage I would Recommend Doing A Silent Prayer
Its is said: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 King James Version (KJV)

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
