Break The Cycle With DSD – Mark Ludwig – Americans for Equal Shared Parenting
Mark Ludwig, founder of Americans for Equal Shared Parenting (AFESP), was featured in a March 2019 episode of the podcast Break the Cycle with DSD, hosted by Duane Robert. The episode focused on Ludwig’s efforts to establish a rebuttable presumption of shared parenting in all 50 states and to reform Title IV-D of the Social Security Act.
Ludwig argues that the current family court system defaults to a “superior custodial parent” model in approximately 83% of cases, often reducing the non-custodial parent (typically the father) to a visitor. He contends that this lack of equal access contributes to negative societal outcomes, including higher rates of incarceration, drug use, and school dropout rates among children from fatherless homes.
Key Objectives and Arguments
Rebuttable Presumption Laws
AFESP advocates for legislation that presumes equal shared parenting is in the best interest of the child upon divorce or separation. This presumption is “rebuttable,” meaning judges retain the discretion to rule otherwise if there is evidence of unfitness, unwillingness, or inability (e.g., significant geographic distance between parents). The goal is to shift the legal baseline from “every other weekend” visitation to a 50/50 arrangement unless proven otherwise.
Critique of Federal Incentives
A central theme of Ludwig’s advocacy, discussed in the podcast, is the impact of Title IV-D federal funding. He asserts that states receive financial incentives based on the amount of child support collected. Consequently, courts are motivated to assign one parent as the primary custodian and the other as the payor, rather than encouraging equal shared parenting where child support obligations might be minimized or eliminated. Ludwig claims this financial structure prioritizes revenue generation over the best interests of children and fathers seeking active involvement.
What Does The KJV Bible Say?
“Break The Cycle” with Duane Robert (DSD) features family court advocate Mark Ludwig, founder of Americans for Equal Shared Parenting (AFESP), to address the emotional, legal, and systemic challenges of parental alienation and fatherhood erasure. Ludwig’s advocacy focuses on shifting family law away from winner-take-all custody battles toward a mandatory presumption of 50/50 equal parenting. He highlights how separating children from a fit parent fuels a generational cycle of trauma, fatherless households, and deep psychological damage.
The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible heavily emphasizes the principles of equal parental honor, breaking intergenerational curses, and maintaining the presence of both parents. The comparison below aligns the concepts from Mark Ludwig’s AFESP interview with Biblical principles from the KJV.
Comparison Table: Advocacy Concepts vs. KJV Scripture
| AFESP & DSD Concept | Core Advocacy Target | KJV Biblical Principle | Key KJV Verse |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breaking Generational Cycles | Ending the cycle of broken homes and fatherlessness. | Stopping the transmission of iniquity to future generations. | Ezekiel 18:20 |
| Equal Status of Parents | Eradicating the legal binary of a “primary” vs. “visitor” parent. | Commandment to honor both father and mother equally. | Exodus 20:12 |
| The Danger of Alienation | Stopping one parent from turning a child against the other. | Condemnation of sowing discord and severing family bonds. | Proverbs 6:16-19 |
| Combating False Allegations | Defending against weaponized legal maneuvers in family court. | Absolute prohibition of bearing false witness against another. | Proverbs 19:9 |
| The Role of the Father | Restoring the vital protective and spiritual role of the father. | Mandate for fathers to actively guide and nurture children. | Ephesians 6:4 |
| The Impact of the Mother | Valuing maternal instruction alongside paternal guidance. | Admonition to not forsake the law and teaching of the mother. | Proverbs 1:8 |
| Malicious Gatekeeping | Exposing courts or parents who withhold children for gain. | Warning against those who rob a child of their heritage or parent. | Malachi 4:6 |
| The Tragedy of a Broken Spirit | Healing children traumatized by sudden parental separation. | Recognizing that emotional trauma dries the bones of a child. | Proverbs 17:22 |
| Reforming Corrupt Systems | Overturning systemic incentives that profit off family conflict. | Woe unto judges and systems that decree unrighteous decrees. | Isaiah 10:1 |
| Restoration and Healing | Rebuilding the bond between an alienated parent and child. | Turning the hearts of the fathers back to their children. | Luke 1:17 |
10 Examples of “Breaking the Cycle” via Shared Parenting Principles
The following examples illustrate how the advocacy themes from the DSD and Mark Ludwig interview map directly onto KJV scriptures:
- Example 1: Breaking Generational Trauma
- Advocacy Focus: Children from single-parent households face statistically higher rates of incarceration and behavioral issues. Shared parenting stops this cycle.
- KJV Application: Ezekiel 18:20 – “The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son…” Scripture dictates that children should not be forced to suffer or repeat the structural failures of their parents’ broken dynamics.
- Example 2: Enforcing Joint Parental Honor
- Advocacy Focus: Family courts frequently relegate one parent to 4 days a month, transforming them into a “visitor”.
- KJV Application: Exodus 20:12 – “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land…” God’s law treats both parents as an undivided unit of authority. The legal system disrupts this by legally minimizing one parent’s role.
- Example 3: Exposing the Sin of False Witness
- Advocacy Focus: Ludwig shares how fabricated allegations are often deployed to gain tactical advantages in custody disputes.
- KJV Application: Proverbs 19:9 – “A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.” Weaponizing false narratives to strip a child of a loving parent directly violates Biblical justice.
- Example 4: Reversing the Destruction of Alienation
- Advocacy Focus: Parental alienation involves poisoning a child’s mind against a fit parent, destroying their relationship.
- KJV Application: Proverbs 6:16,19 – “These six things doth the Lord hate… A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Sowing division within a nuclear family unit is explicitly identified as an abomination.
- Example 5: Restoring Paternal Guidance
- Advocacy Focus: Fathers provide unique boundary-setting, protection, and identity affirmation that cannot be substituted.
- KJV Application: Ephesians 6:4 – “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” A father cannot fulfill the divine mandate to nurture and admonION his children if the legal system physically bars him from their lives.
- Example 6: Protecting Maternal Influence
- Advocacy Focus: True shared parenting respects that a child needs the continuous, daily influence of both parents, rather than completely replacing one with the other.
- KJV Application: Proverbs 1:8 – “My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.” The text presumes a child has constant, uninhibited access to both paternal instruction and maternal law.
- Example 7: Eradicating Unjust Legal Decrees
- Advocacy Focus: AFESP fights against standard court guidelines and financial incentives (like Title IV-D) that reward conflict and maximize single-parent designations.
- KJV Application: Isaiah 10:1 – “Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed.” This warns institutional bodies against creating laws that strip the vulnerable of their fundamental rights.
- Example 8: Healing the Broken Spirit of the Child
- Advocacy Focus: Isolating a child from a parent causes intense psychological trauma, anxiety, and depression.
- KJV Application: Proverbs 17:22 – “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” The severe emotional distress inflicted upon children caught in high-conflict custody custody battles damages their foundational well-being.
- Example 9: Overcoming Malicious Gatekeeping
- Advocacy Focus: Gatekeeping occurs when a bitter co-parent cuts off contact, leaving the other parent completely separated from their child for months or years.
- KJV Application: Malachi 4:6 – “And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” Severing the generational bond brings a curse upon society; repairing it brings restoration.
- Example 10: Pursuing True Peace and Mediation
- Advocacy Focus: Ludwig champions legal mediation and legislative reform over adversarial court battles to protect family assets and child sanity.
- KJV Application: Matthew 5:9 – “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Moving away from aggressive litigation toward cooperative, equal co-parenting fulfills the biblical call to be a peacemaker.

This is a major important point about forgiveness
Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV
Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?
I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.
When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.
We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.
Women are looking for a fathers love
Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.
Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.
Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)
In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

Spiritual Order – In The Family and Church

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.
All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

After Reading The Passage I would Recommend Doing A Silent Prayer
Its is said: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 King James Version (KJV)

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
