GDPR explained: How the new data protection act could change your life

GDPR explained: How the new data protection act could change your life

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a comprehensive EU law designed to give individuals greater control over their personal data by imposing strict rules on how organizations collect, process, and store it. It has fundamentally changed how companies manage data globally, forcing a shift toward greater transparency and accountability.

How the GDPR Changes Your Life

The GDPR empowers you with specific rights over your personal information, transforming your relationship with the digital services you use daily.

  • You regain control: Companies must now obtain your explicit, freely given, and unambiguous consent before collecting or using your data. Pre-ticked boxes or vague policies are no longer allowed.
  • Increased Transparency: You have the right to be informed, in clear and plain language, about what data is being collected, why, how it is stored, and with whom it might be shared.
  • Enhanced Security: The regulation mandates robust security measures, like encryption, for personal data. Companies must also report any data breaches to authorities and affected individuals within 72 hours, which was not always required before.

Your Core Data Protection Rights

The GDPR grants you an “online Bill of Rights”:

  • The Right to be Informed: You must be told how your data is used.
  • The Right of Access: You can request and receive a free electronic copy of all the personal data a company holds about you.
  • The Right to Rectification: You can have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
  • The Right to Erasure (or “Right to be Forgotten”): In many circumstances, you can request that your personal data be permanently deleted when it is no longer necessary for the original purpose.
  • The Right to Restrict Processing: You can limit how an organization uses your data in specific situations.
  • The Right to Data Portability: You can obtain your data in a machine-readable format and transfer it to another service provider (e.g., moving data from one social media platform to another).
  • The Right to Object: You have the right to object to the processing of your data, especially for direct marketing or profiling.
  • Rights Related to Automated Decision Making and Profiling: You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing (e.g., credit checks or online profiling) that has legal or significant effects on you.

Impact on Businesses

For businesses, the GDPR means treating personal data as a significant responsibility, not just an asset. Compliance involves:

  • Implementing “privacy by design,” meaning data protection is built into systems from the start.
  • Appointing a Data Protection Officer (DPO) in certain cases.
  • Facing hefty fines of up to €20 million or 4% of annual global turnover for non-compliance.

Ultimately, the GDPR has set a global standard for data privacy, fostering a more transparent and secure digital environment where individuals have more control and trust in how their information is handled.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which took effect on May 25, 2018, represents a significant overhaul of data protection laws in the European Union, aiming to give individuals unprecedented control over their personal data. It was introduced to address the rapid digitization of life, where vast amounts of personal information—ranging from names and contact details to sensitive data like race, health, and biometrics—are collected, stored, and traded by companies and governments. GDPR replaces the 1995 Data Protection Directive, which was outdated in the face of modern technological advancements.

Under GDPR, organizations must have a lawful basis for processing personal data, such as explicit consent, which must be freely given, informed, and unambiguous. This has led to a surge in email notifications from companies seeking reconfirmation of consent, although some experts argue that not all such communications are legally required if consent was previously valid. The regulation enforces the principle of “privacy by design and by default,” meaning data protection must be integrated into systems from the outset and only necessary data should be processed.

Individuals now have several key rights under GDPR, including the right to access their personal data, the right to have inaccurate data corrected, and the right to be forgotten, allowing individuals to request the deletion of their data in certain circumstances. This right to erasure applies even if the data was collected legally, provided it is no longer necessary for its original purpose or if consent is withdrawn. Additionally, GDPR grants the right to data portability, enabling users to transfer their data between service providers easily.

In the event of a data breach, organizations are required to report it to the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, and in cases where there is a high risk to individuals, they must also inform the affected individuals without undue delay. The regulation also strengthens protections for sensitive data, such as genetic, biometric, health, and sexual orientation information, which are subject to stricter rules.

To enforce compliance, GDPR imposes substantial fines—up to 4% of a company’s global annual turnover or €20 million, whichever is higher. This has led major global companies like Meta (Facebook) and Google to adopt GDPR standards worldwide, even outside the EU, to maintain consistency and rebuild user trust after high-profile data misuse scandals. The regulation also applies to organizations outside the EU if they offer goods or services to EU residents or monitor their behavior.

In the UK, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 now govern data protection, maintaining alignment with EU standards post-Brexit. However, recent reforms, including the Data Use and Access Act 2025 (DUAA), are introducing changes to further support innovation and economic growth. The DUAA introduces a new “recognised legitimate interests” basis for processing data, which removes the need to balance individual rights against organizational interests in certain cases, such as national security or crime prevention. It also allows for some cookie usage without explicit consent, particularly for statistical and functional purposes, shifting toward a more opt-out model for low-risk data processing.

These changes reflect a broader trend of balancing privacy with technological advancement, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence and automated decision-making, where the UK is relaxing restrictions on sole automated processing, provided safeguards like the right to human intervention are maintained. While GDPR has empowered individuals and set a global benchmark for data protection, ongoing reforms in the UK and proposed changes in the EU signal a dynamic evolution in how personal data is managed in the digital age.

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
