The Power of Love | Dr. Gene Kim Video Review

The Power of Love | Dr. Gene Kim Video Review

Dr. Gene Kim’s sermon titled The Power of Love emphasizes that biblical love is not primarily an emotion, but a deliberate action and duty rooted in obedience to God. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 13, he argues that love is demonstrated through patience, kindness, selflessness, and perseverance—qualities that require effort rather than passive feelings. He warns against relying on fleeting emotions in relationships, noting that when love is based solely on feeling, it leads to instability, fornication, adultery, and divorce.

Kim stresses that true love, especially in the Christian walk, is sustained by faithful performance of duty, even when feelings are absent. He illustrates this with the example of Moses, whose deep relationship with God was built over decades of obedience, not emotional highs. According to Kim, love matures from initial passion into a disciplined, instinctive commitment—something practiced daily through Bible reading, prayer, and service, even when one does not “feel like it.”

Reception and Controversy Surrounding Dr. Gene Kim

While some viewers appreciate Dr. Gene Kim’s theological depth and commitment to biblical literalism, others have raised concerns about his approach. On Reddit, critics describe his teaching as overly intellectual, lacking heart, and dismissive of the Holy Spirit’s gifts, such as dreams and visions—of which Kim is skeptical, claiming they may originate from the antichrist. Some accuse him of pride, particularly due to his frequent use of the title “Dr.” and his confrontational tone toward other pastors like John MacArthur.

Additionally, inconsistencies in his biblical interpretation have been noted—such as advocating “scripture with scripture” while simultaneously rejecting the practice as improper division of the Word. These contradictions have led some to question his hermeneutic reliability.

Dr. Gene Kim has preached extensively on topics like dispensationalism, prophecy, science and the Bible, and Christian maturity. Videos such as Science & The Bible | Dr. Gene Kim and Dispensations & Prophecy offer deeper insight into his theological framework. His sermons often reflect a fundamentalist, King James-Only perspective, common in certain Independent Baptist circles.

What Does The KJV Bible Say?

In his teachings on “The Power of Love,” Dr. Gene Kim emphasizes that love is the foundational “root” of the Christian walk, arguing that all right doctrine, soul-winning, and spiritual growth must spring from a sincere love for God. He teaches that true love (often referred to as charity in the KJV) is not merely a feeling but a power that enables believers to overcome sin and put to death the desires of the flesh.

Key Concepts from Dr. Gene Kim’s “The Power of Love”

KJV Bible Verse Core Teaching / ApplicationDr. Gene Kim’s Perspective
1 Corinthians 13:4-8“Charity suffereth long, and is kind…”Love is the “first basic”; without it, knowledge and truth can be misused or “puff up” the believer.
Ephesians 3:18-19“To know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge…”Spiritual growth is only possible when you love God more than yourself, allowing you to comprehend the depths of His truth.
John 13:35“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”Genuine love for other believers is the primary evidence of a true relationship with Christ.
Romans 6:6-11“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him…”The power of God’s love is realized when the believer “reckons” the flesh dead and allows the spiritual nature to take over.
2 Timothy 1:7“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love…”Love provides the confidence and fearlessness needed to stay faithful during times of discouragement or bitterness.

Video Summary & Review

  • The Foundation of Truth: Dr. Kim argues that even if a person knows the “right doctrine” (KJV Onlyism, Dispensationalism), that knowledge is ineffective and potentially harmful without love.
  • Conquering Sin: He connects the “power of love” to the ability to live a victorious Christian life by prioritizing God’s will over fleshly desires.
  • Remembrance in Trials: He encourages believers to “remember” God’s love during times of sin or discouragement, as recalling Christ’s sacrifice is often what changes the mind to repent.

Dr. Kim’s specific dispensationalist views on how love functions in different biblical ages?

Dr. Gene Kim’s dispensationalist framework posits that while God’s nature of love is eternal, the way He administers and requires love differs across biblical ages (dispensations) to accomplish specific redemptive goals.

In his teaching, Dr. Kim emphasizes “Rightly Dividing” (2 Timothy 2:15) to distinguish between love as a legal requirement under the Law and love as a spiritual power in the Church Age.

Love Across Biblical Dispensations (Dr. Gene Kim Review)

Biblical Age KJV ReferenceRole of Love / MechanismDr. Gene Kim’s Dispensational Application
Innocence / ConscienceGenesis 4:9Love as Natural AffectionBefore written Law, love was a matter of conscience; the failure of love (e.g., Cain) led to the first judgment.
Law (Israel)Leviticus 19:18Love as a CommandmentLove was a “duty” or a legal requirement to fulfill the Law. It was focused on physical neighbors and the nation of Israel.
Church Age (Grace)1 Corinthians 13:13Love as Charity (Power)Love is the “more excellent way.” It is a supernatural power given by the Holy Spirit to the believer to overcome the flesh.
TribulationMatthew 24:12Love Waxing ColdIn this future age, love (charity) largely disappears as lawlessness increases, serving as a sign of the end times.
Millennial KingdomIsaiah 11:6-9Love as Universal PeaceLove becomes the literal, physical law of the earth as Christ reigns personally from Jerusalem.

Specific Views on “Charity” vs. “Love”

Dr. Kim argues that the

King James Bible purposefully uses the word “charity” in the Church Age epistles (like 1 Corinthians 13) to distinguish it from the general emotion of “love”.

  • Charity is Actionable: In the Church Age, charity is the outward expression of God’s love through the believer’s new nature, which is “cut off” from the flesh.
  • Charity is for Service: He teaches that charity is the “bond of perfectness” (Colossians 3:14) that keeps the local church unified during this dispensation.
  • The Motive for Soul Winning: Under the current Dispensation of Grace, the “Power of Love” is the only valid motive for preaching; doing it out of duty or fear is viewed as “sounding brass”.

Dr. Kim applies this dispensational view specifically to the Judgment Seat of Christ where a believer’s love and “charity” are evaluated?

In his teachings, Dr. Gene Kim explains that the Judgment Seat of Christ (the Bema Seat) is not about salvation from hell, but a dispensational evaluation of how a believer utilized the “Power of Love” (Charity) to serve God during the Church Age.

The Evaluation of Charity at the Judgment Seat

According to Dr. Kim, “Charity” is the specific metric for rewards because it represents love in action—specifically, actions performed through the new nature rather than the flesh. He teaches that work done without charity is “worthless” and will be burned, regardless of how “religious” it appeared.

KJV Bible Verse Evaluative Metric at the Bema SeatDr. Gene Kim’s Dispensational Application
1 Corinthians 3:13-15“The fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”The “sort” of work refers to the motive. If the motive wasn’t charity (love for God/brethren), the work is wood, hay, or stubble.
1 Corinthians 13:3“…and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”A believer can perform “good” deeds (giving to poor, etc.), but if it’s done for self-glory or out of legalism, it results in loss of reward.
2 Corinthians 5:10“…receive the things done in his body… whether it be good or bad.”“Bad” here is not “sin” (which was judged at the Cross), but worthless works—those done through the flesh instead of the spirit of love.
Colossians 3:14, 24“And above all these things put on charity… knowing… ye shall receive the reward.”Charity is the “bond of perfectness.” It is the primary qualifier for the “inheritance” reward in the Millennial Kingdom.
2 Timothy 4:8“A crown of righteousness… unto all them also that love his appearing.”Rewards (crowns) are specifically promised to those whose love for Christ makes them long for His return.

Key Takeaways from the Review

  • Charity vs. Empty Works: Dr. Kim argues that many “soul-winners” will lose rewards because they worked out of pride or competition rather than charity.
  • The “Sort” of Work: The judgment fire doesn’t measure the quantity of work, but the quality (the “sort”). Charity is what turns mundane work into “gold, silver, and precious stones”.
  • Mercy at the Bema: He notes that while the Bema is a place of reward, it is also a “solemn” event where believers may feel “ashamed” if their lives lacked the power of love.

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
