Jeremiah 31 describes God’s promise to gather the Jews from the “north country” and other distant lands, signifying a future restoration of Israel

Jeremiah 31 is a message of hope given to Judah before their exile, promising future restoration despite impending judgment. God declares a new beginning for Israel, promising to rebuild and replant the nation. The prophecy specifically mentions gathering them from the “north country,” which primarily refers to Babylon, where Judah would be exiled, but also encompasses other areas where both Judah and the earlier exiled northern kingdom of Israel were scattered. This regathering is rooted in God’s everlasting love for His people. A key element is the promise of a “new covenant” that will replace the broken old covenant, with God’s law written on the hearts of His people and their sins forgiven. This new covenant is seen by New Testament writers as fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

King James Version verses

The following verses from Jeremiah 31 highlight God’s promise to call the Jews out of the north country and return them to their land, emphasizing salvation, compassionate regathering, divine guidance, and eventual joy and abundance upon their return:

Here is a table summarizing key verses from Jeremiah 31 (KJV) that speak of God’s promise to regather His people:

Verse (KJV) Summary
Jeremiah 31:7God directs the people to praise Him for saving the remnant of Israel.
Jeremiah 31:8God promises to gather His people from the “north country” and other places of exile, including the vulnerable.
Jeremiah 31:9The return is described with repentance and prayer, with God promising safe guidance.
Jeremiah 31:10Nations are called to witness God’s power to regather and care for His scattered people.
Jeremiah 31:11Confirms God’s deliverance from stronger captors.
Jeremiah 31:12Promises joy, abundance, and an end to sorrow upon their return.
Jeremiah 31:13Promises a complete reversal of sadness into joy and celebration.

Jeremiah 31 describes God’s promise to gather the Jews from the “north country” and other distant lands, signifying a future restoration of Israel. The prophecy states, “Behold, I will bring them from the north country and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the pregnant woman and she who is in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here”. This “north country” refers to the regions where the northern tribes of Israel were exiled by Assyria in 722 BC, particularly areas along the River Habor and among the cities of the Medes, which correspond to modern-day Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey. The verse emphasizes that God will lead them back with compassion, guiding them “by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble”  , and will be a father to Israel, with Ephraim as His firstborn.

This gathering is part of a larger promise of restoration, including the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the establishment of a new covenant where God will write His law on the hearts of His people. The return from the north is interpreted as a future, end-time event that began with the establishment of the modern State of Israel in 1948 but will be fully fulfilled when Christ returns and a second great wave of Jews returns to the Holy Land. The prophecy underscores God’s everlasting love and faithfulness, affirming that He will not abandon His people, and that their future is secure in His hands.

Is The Modern Country Of The North Russia With Nearly Half Of All Jews Returning To Israel Come From Russia And Satelite States Of The Former U.S.S.R.

The passage does not name any modern nations but speaks of a future gathering of Israel from a “north country” and other lands.

While some Bible commentators suggest that end-time prophecies in other books, like Ezekiel 38–39, may refer to modern-day Russia, this interpretation is not universally accepted. A belief that Russia is the prophetic “country of the north” is a modern interpretation, not an explicit scriptural reference.

Context of “the north country” in Jeremiah

  • Original meaning: In the time of Jeremiah, the “land of the north” referred to Babylon, which lay north of Israel and was the power that carried the Jewish people into exile.
  • Broader prophetic scope: In Jeremiah 31, the reference to bringing the exiles back from “the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth” expands the vision beyond the Babylonian captivity to a comprehensive, worldwide re-gathering of the Jewish people.
  • A historical fulfillment: The large migration of Jews from the former Soviet Union (the “north”) to Israel is seen by many as a modern fulfillment of prophecies regarding the worldwide re-gathering of the Jewish people.

Jeremiah 31 verses (KJV)

The following table contains key verses from Jeremiah 31 from the King James Version that are relevant to the themes of restoration and return from the north.

For those interested in the King James Version text of Jeremiah 31 related to these themes, the following verses are particularly relevant and can be found in the referenced document:

  • Jeremiah 31:7 speaks of singing and shouting for Jacob and praising the Lord for saving the remnant of Israel.
  • Jeremiah 31:8 describes the Lord bringing people from the north and gathering them from the coasts of the earth, including the blind, lame, pregnant, and those in labor.
  • Jeremiah 31:9 mentions them coming with weeping and supplications, being led by rivers of water in a straight way, and the Lord being a father to Israel and Ephraim.
  • Jeremiah 31:10 calls on nations to hear and declare that the one who scattered Israel will gather and keep them like a shepherd.
  • Jeremiah 31:16 advises refraining from weeping and tears, for their work will be rewarded, and they will return from the land of the enemy.
  • Jeremiah 31:17 states there is hope that their children will return to their own border.

Modern Statics Of Where The Jews Have Moved From In To Israel?

As of 2024, the largest number of Jewish immigrants to Israel (olim) in recent decades have arrived from countries of the former Soviet Union, particularly Russia and Ukraine. Other major sources of recent immigration include the United States, France, and Ethiopia.

Migration from the former Soviet Union

The collapse of the Soviet Union spurred a major wave of immigration to Israel in the 1990s, with over one million people arriving between 1990 and 2018.

  • Russia and Ukraine: These countries remain major sources of immigrants. In 2022, aliyah from Russia jumped to 45,000 and from Ukraine to 15,000. Migration from this region often includes individuals who are eligible for citizenship under Israel’s Law of Return but are not Jewish according to religious law.
  • Other countries: Other former Soviet republics, including Belarus, Moldova, and Georgia, have also been significant sources of immigration.

Immigration from Western countries

Western Europe and North America have consistently contributed to immigration to Israel. While numbers from Western countries are generally lower than those from the former Soviet Union, they are still significant.

  • United States: The U.S. has been a steady source of aliyah, with thousands of Americans immigrating to Israel each year.
  • France: France saw a sharp increase in aliyah in 2015, partly due to rising antisemitism and terror attacks. The Jewish Agency also reported a massive surge of interest in aliyah from France after the events of October 7, 2023.
  • United Kingdom and Canada: Smaller but consistent numbers of immigrants have also come from the UK and Canada.

Immigration from Africa and the Middle East

Historically, Israel absorbed large numbers of Jewish immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East in the mid-20th century.

  • Ethiopia: Major airlifts, including Operation Moses (1984) and Operation Solomon (1991), brought almost the entire Ethiopian Jewish community to Israel. More recently, programs have continued to bring smaller groups of Ethiopian Jews to Israel.
  • Middle East and North Africa (MENA): After the establishment of Israel in 1948, the majority of Jews from Arab and Muslim countries immigrated to Israel due to increased hostility and persecution. Today, their descendants make up more than half of Israel’s Jewish population.

Recent trends and shifts

  • Russian and Ukrainian migration: The 2022 invasion of Ukraine led to a spike in aliyah from both Ukraine and Russia. In 2023, immigrants from the former USSR accounted for 83.6% of all immigrants to Israel.
  • Increase in Western aliyah post-October 7: Following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, the Jewish Agency and other organizations noted a significant increase in aliyah applications from Western countries, particularly the United States and France.
  • Settlement trends: Some recent immigrants, particularly from the U.S. and among the Orthodox Jewish community, have shown a greater preference for settling in the West Bank.

Diversity & Growth

Since Rosh Hashanah 2024, Israel’s population has grown by 101,000 (an increase of only 1.0%, compared to 1.2% and 2.0% in the two years prior, respectively).

The total Jewish population and other residents in September 2025 was 7,758,000 (78.5%), and 2,130,000 (21.5%) were Arabs. Those identified as “others” are non-Arab ChristiansBaha’i, Samaritans, Karaite Jews, Seventh-day Adventists, Messianic Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and immigrants from the former Soviet Union, who identify themselves as Jewish but do not satisfy the Orthodox Jewish definition of “Jewish,” which the government uses for civil procedures. 260,000 were foreigners.

The average population density is 461 people per square kilometer.

Since the approval of the National Outline Plan 35, annual growth rates have been 1.4% in the north and 2.4% in the south.

The Tel Aviv metropolitan area is experiencing an annual growth rate of 1.8%.

In 2023, the population by religion was roughly 74% Jewish (7,400,000), 21% Muslim (2,100,000), 5% (500,000) Christian Arab and foreign citizens. Just under 2% of the population (180,300) are non-Arab Christians and 1.6% (152,000) are Druze.

The growth rate decreased from 2023 mainly due to significantly lower immigration. The proportion of the Jewish population ended its decline from previous years.

When the state was established, there were only 806,000 residents, and the total population reached its first and second million in 1949 and 1958, respectively.

In addition to these numbers, approximately 248,000 people are foreigners.

Of the 16.8 million Jewish people worldwide, 45.5% reside in Israel.

The average gross earnings per household is NIS 22,013 (approximately $5,864).

Roughly 50,000 deaths were reported on the eve of Rosh Hashanah 2025 compared to the year prior.

Israel is the 100th most populous country in the world, not including the over 250,000 illegal foreign workers and African migrants residing in Israel.

More than 91% of Israelis are satisfied with their lives – 91.9% of Jews and 87.8% of Arabs. Almost 70% of Jews are satisfied with their economic situation, compared to 57.2% of Arabs.

Religious Observance

A May 2025 survey shows that 6% of Israeli Jews identify as Reform, doubling from 3% in 2022, while 2% identify as Conservative, up from 1%. Orthodox-affiliated groups remain dominant, with 28% identifying as religious-Zionist and 10% as Haredi (ultra-Orthodox). The largest segment, 50%, remains unaffiliated. Despite 40% of respondents saying Reform Judaism aligns with their values, 69% have no intention of joining. Attendance remains low, with only 8% participating in a Reform service in the past two years, though nearly 20% have attended life-cycle events officiated by Reform rabbis.

As of Rosh Hashanah 2025, 42.7% of Jews self-identify as secular, 33.5% as traditional, 12.0% as religious, and 11.4% as ultra-Orthodox.

According to a poll by the NGO Hiddush published in September 2019, 58% of Jewish citizens do not affiliate with any religious stream, 18% are “Zionist Orthodox,” 12% are “ultra-Orthodox” (including 2% “Zionist ultra-Orthodox”), 7% “Reform,” and 6% “Conservative.”

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
