Is The Ethiopian Bible The Oldest Bible?

Ethiopian Bible History

The Ethiopian Bible is considered one of the oldest and most complete versions of the Bible, with its origins dating back to the 6th century.  It is written in Ge’ez, an ancient South Semitic language of the Ethiopian branch, and is believed to be nearly 800 years older than the King James Version. The Ethiopian Bible contains 81-88 books, compared to the 66 books in the King James Version, including additional texts such as the Book of Enoch, Esdras, Buruch, and the three Books of Maccabee.

The Garima Gospels are the oldest translation of the Bible in Ge’ez and the world’s earliest complete illustrated Christian manuscript. Monastic tradition holds that they were composed close to the year 500, a date supported by recent radiocarbon analysis.  The Ethiopian Bible includes numerous texts that the King James Version avoided, such as the Books of Enoch, Esdras, Buruch, and three Books of Maccabee.

The Ethiopian Bible is also known for its unique collection of texts, including the Book of Enoch, Jubilees, the Book of Enoch, the Rest of Esther, the Rest of Daniel, the Prayer of Azariah and the Song of the Three Holy Children, the Ascension of Isaiah, and the Apocalypse of Ezra.  These texts are considered canonical by the Ethiopian Church and provide a different perspective on biblical history and teachings.

The Ethiopian Bible’s history is closely tied to the Christianization of Ethiopia in the 4th century, with translations of the Bible in Ge’ez created between the 5th and 7th century, soon after the Christianization of Ethiopia.  The Ethiopian Bible has been preserved in monasteries and is an important part of Ethiopian religious and cultural heritage. Despite its significance, the Ethiopian Bible is not widely available in English, and translations into other languages are limited.

Oldest Bible Translation

The oldest known translation of the Bible is the Septuagint, which is a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible. This translation was created during the Hellenistic period, around the 3rd century BCE, and is often referred to as the “Translation of the Seventy” due to the traditional account that seventy-two Hebrew scholars translated the text into Greek at the request of Ptolemy II Philadelphus.  The Septuagint is significant because it was the first extant Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible and played a crucial role in the spread of Jewish religious texts among Greek-speaking communities. Another early translation is the Tyndale Bible, which was an English translation made by William Tyndale in the early 16th century, though it is not as old as the Septuagint.  The oldest complete and intact Bible is the Codex Amiatinus, dating to the 8th century, but the most reliable copy of the Bible in terms of textual accuracy is often considered to be the Codex Vaticanus, although it is incomplete.

Codex Vaticanus Ethiopian Bible Source

The Codex Vaticanus is not the Hebrew source of the Ethiopian Bible. The Ethiopian Bible, also known as the Ge’ez Bible, is a collection of texts written in Ge’ez, an ancient Semitic language, and it includes a larger number of books compared to the Hebrew Bible. The Ethiopian Bible contains 81 books, including texts such as Enoch, Jubilees, and 1 Meqabyan, which are not found in other Christian traditions.  The Codex Vaticanus, on the other hand, is a fourth-century Greek manuscript that contains most of the Septuagint and the New Testament, but it does not serve as the source for the Ethiopian Bible. The Ethiopian Bible has its own distinct tradition and is not directly derived from the Codex Vaticanus.

Ethiopian Bible Source

The Ethiopian Bible, also known as the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Bible, is one of the oldest and most comprehensive biblical canons in traditional Christendom, containing 81 books in its narrower canon and additional books in its broader canon.  It is written in Ge’ez, an ancient language of Ethiopia, and includes both the Old and New Testaments. The Ethiopian Bible is distinct from Western biblical canons, as it includes books such as 1 Enoch, Jubilees, and the Book of Meqabyan, which are not part of the standard Protestant or Catholic canons.

The Ethiopian Bible is considered to be older than the King James Version (KJV), with some sources suggesting it is nearly 800 years older.  It is believed to have been translated from the Greek Septuagint (LXX) and the Greek New Testament, and it has been preserved in Ethiopian monasteries for centuries. Some of the oldest known biblical manuscripts, such as the Garima Gospels, are associated with the Ethiopian tradition.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church emphasizes both the written Word of God (the Bible) and apostolic tradition, and the canon of the Ethiopian Bible differs significantly from that of other Christian traditions.  The Ethiopian Bible is also notable for its inclusion of additional texts that provide historical and theological context, though some of these are considered non-canonical or pseudepigraphic by Western scholars.

Despite its historical significance, the Ethiopian Bible is not widely available in English, and many of its texts are difficult to access due to the use of Ge’ez and the limited availability of translations.  Additionally, there are concerns about the authenticity of some online copies, as some may contain non-canonical or heretical versions of texts like the Book of Enoch.

Ethiopian Jews Origin

The question of how Ethiopians became Jews is complex and involves a mix of historical, religious, and cultural narratives. According to Ethiopian tradition, the Beta Israel, or Ethiopian Jews, trace their origins to ancient times, with some believing that they are descendants of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon. This tradition holds that Menelik, the son of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, was born in Ethiopia and later brought the Jewish faith to the region.

Another theory suggests that Judaism may have been introduced to Ethiopia through Jewish traders and adventurers, possibly linked to the story of Solomon and Sheba. Some speculate that early contact by Jewish traders and adventurers led to a small Jewish settlement in Ethiopia, which grew after troubles in Palestine and Nebuchadnezzar’s victory. Additionally, it is believed that some early Ethiopian Jews were Agau converts, an ancient people settled in the Ethiopian region for millennia, and others may have been merchants or traders who came over from Yemen, which had a significant Jewish population in the first centuries CE.

According to the Beta Israel tradition, the legendary Kingdom of Beta Israel, later called the Kingdom of Simien, was initially established after Ezana declared Christianity as the official religion of the Kingdom of Aksum. The inhabitants who practiced Judaism refused to convert to Christianity and began revolting; this group was referred to as “Beta Israel”.

Despite these historical and cultural narratives, the exact origins of Ethiopian Jews remain a subject of debate among scholars. Some theories suggest that the Jewish faith came to Ethiopians through various waves of settlement, including possible migrations from the Middle East and the influence of Jewish communities in nearby regions.

It is also important to note that the Beta Israel have maintained their Jewish identity despite centuries of persecution, discrimination, and forced conversions. They have developed a unique form of Judaism, distinct from the Jewish mainstream, with their own religious practices and traditions.

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in Christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave theses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
