The Babylonian Calendar And Why The Jews Use It Today?

The Babylonian Calendar And Why The Jews Use It Today?

There were several reasons why the Babylonians developed their calendar system:

Tracking Time:

  • Lunar Cycle: The primary function of any calendar is to track time. The Babylonians, like many early cultures, observed the easily visible and predictable lunar cycle (around 29.5 days). This cycle formed the basis of their months.
  • Agriculture: Understanding the lunar cycle was crucial for agricultural societies. Planting and harvesting activities were often timed based on the phases of the moon.

Aligning with Seasons:

  • Solar Year Problem: The lunar year (12 lunar cycles) is shorter than the solar year (the time it takes Earth to orbit the sun) by about 11 days. This mismatch meant their calendar would gradually drift out of sync with the seasons.
  • Intercalation: The Babylonians addressed this by inserting extra months (leap months) into their calendar system periodically. This practice, called intercalation, brought the calendar back into alignment with the solar year, ensuring predictability for agricultural activities.

Early Development and Influence:

  • Early Innovation: Dating back to around 2600 BCE, the Babylonian calendar is one of the earliest known calendars. This demonstrates the advanced astronomical observations and mathematical skills the Babylonians possessed.
  • Legacy: The Babylonian calendar significantly influenced later calendars, including the Hebrew calendar and even aspects of our modern Gregorian calendar.

Additional Points:

  • Complexity: While effective, the Babylonian calendar wasn’t without its challenges. Determining leap months likely involved complex astronomical observations and calculations by specialists, making it less accessible for common people.
  • Shifting Focus: Over time, the Babylonians also developed a solar calendar for specific purposes. This calendar was simpler and divided the year into 12 equal months, making it more suitable for administrative tasks and precise astronomical calculations.

Josephus Reveals 1st Century Babylonian Pharisee Calendar. The Event That Changed the Calendar

The idea of Josephus revealing a 1st-century Babylonian Pharisee calendar and it being a major turning point in calendar systems is likely not historically accurate. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Josephus: While Josephus was a 1st-century Romano-Jewish historian, his writings focus on Jewish history and traditions, not Babylonian calendars.
  • Pharisees: The Pharisees were a Jewish sect known for their strict adherence to oral traditions and interpretations of Jewish law. They wouldn’t have been directly involved with the Babylonian calendar, which was a separate culture and religion.
  • 1st Century Calendar Change: Major calendar reforms didn’t occur in the 1st century. The Julian calendar, a Roman system based on the solar year, was already in place at that time.

Possible Origins of the Story:

  • Conflation: There might be a confusion of calendars. The Pharisees did have their own calendar system based on the Hebrew calendar, which is lunisolar (combining lunar and solar cycles).
  • Invention vs. Revelation: It’s possible the story mixes up “revealing” with the development of the Hebrew calendar. However, this calendar predates the 1st century by a significant margin.

Here’s a more likely scenario for the development of calendars:

  • Ancient Calendars: Many cultures, including the Babylonians (as discussed previously) and the Hebrews, developed their own calendars based on celestial observations and agricultural needs.
  • Evolution and Borrowing: Over time, these calendars influenced each other. The Romans, for example, adopted and adapted elements from earlier calendars like the Babylonian to create the Julian calendar.
  • Modern Calendar: The Julian calendar itself was later refined into the Gregorian calendar we use today, which offers greater accuracy.

Who Was Josephus In Jewish History?

Josephus was a complex and controversial figure in Jewish history, living in the 1st century AD during a turbulent period. Here’s a breakdown of his key roles:

Priest and Scholar:

  • Born into a priestly family in Jerusalem, Josephus received a good education in Jewish law and traditions.

Military Leader:

  • When the First Jewish-Roman War (66-73 CE) broke out against Roman rule, Josephus initially joined the Jewish resistance. He was appointed military governor of Galilee but faced challenges uniting the various Jewish factions.

Controversial Surrender:

  • After the Roman siege of Jotapata (67 CE), Josephus was captured. He controversially surrendered to the Romans, a decision that earned him criticism from some Jews who saw it as betrayal.

Roman Historian:

  • After the war, Josephus received Roman patronage and changed his name to Flavius Josephus. He wrote extensively about Jewish history and the war, including:
    • The Jewish War: A detailed account of the Jewish rebellion from a Roman perspective.
    • Antiquities of the Jews: A history of the Jewish people from creation to the first century.
    • Against Apion: A defense of Judaism against Greco-Roman critics.

Legacy:

  • Josephus’ writings are invaluable sources of information about 1st-century Judea and the Jewish war.
  • However, his close association with the Romans and perceived bias in his accounts make him a debated figure. Some view him as a traitor, while others see him as a pragmatist who tried to navigate a difficult situation.

Additional Points:

  • Pharisee Affiliation: Some sources claim Josephus was a Pharisee, a Jewish sect known for their strict adherence to oral traditions. However, the evidence for this is not entirely conclusive.
  • Impact on Christianity: Josephus’ writings also provide some insights into early Christianity, although they are not a primary source for the religion.

Josephus remains a fascinating and contested figure. Understanding his background, actions, and writings provides valuable context for studying Jewish history during the Roman period.

This is a major important point about forgiveness

Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. -MATTHEW 5:24 KJV

Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?

I would start out by saying what Jesus Christ would want us to do? Pray and how should we pray? The Lord’s Prayer, and how often should we pray? Continually. Why do we use the Lord’s Prayer and not some other? The Lord’s Prayer covers all the areas that is important for our spiritual being.

When we pray the Lords prayer we ask to forgive our enemies, let God’s will be done, the kingdom to come. By praying the Lord’s prayer we let go of many thoughts we have in our head and give them back to God so we can have things revealed to us.

We must overcome resentment in our heart, and in a past video I shared about Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about how resentment can destroy us and we become our own very worst enemy and Jordan goes on to say that we must talk to people what we have resentment toward to overcome that resentment. Other people who lived in the past who talked about this is Jesus Christ and someone who is living now who talks about this daily is Brother Augustine, Dr. John MacArthur, Dr. Charles Stanley, Rev. John Piper and Pastor Paul Washer.

Women are looking for a fathers love

Women are looking for a fathers love. Its important that men understand women are looking for a fathers love and not get screwed. Woman more than anything are looking for a strong spiritual man to lead the future (the family). I think in many YouTube videos on biblical teachings, how young women are being hurt by men that are just looking to get laid instead of doing right and being in christ and setting a good example of a strong man. We must be in Christ, hate no one, love all, forgave thoses we resent, love what is right and support people who are walking with God.

Women need their fathers in their lives to be strong man to be good examples and not BETA men or weak examples of what a man should be. Its important that a man leads the way as Christ leads men, we as man need to fellow Jesus Christ to keep society from going to HELL.

Every day you can see or people watch how some men and women our living in hell without the right spiritual order then you will continue your hellish way according to 2 Peter. You can also find it in Romans. God will give you over to a reprobate mind.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient. – Romans 1:28 (KJV)

In Romans 1, Paul refers to something known as a reprobate mind. If you’re not familiar with the term reprobate, the literal definition in the Greek is failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.

How God Commands Us To Forgive Those Who We Have Resentment Toward.

All of us are tested everyday by our personal internal struggle coming from resentment of what happened earlier in our lives as children typically what our mother did to us, telling how our fathers were not good enough or driving us away from our fathers when we were children. We most go to the people that we have resentment against and forgive them. By forgiving our mothers or whoever we have resentment against, God will forgive us and we can return to the heavenly Father through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It was said if you don’t love everyone then you love no one. People today live like the Old Testament people did. We must forgive and love everyone as God Commanded us to do according to Matthew 22:34-40.

In a world where it is so easy to forget the importance of God, we must remember that He is holy and will not share His glory. America has forgotten this truth and it is time for us to re-examine our relationship with God and recognize that He is the one true God who deserves our full devotion and reverence. We must remember that He will not be taken lightly or ignored, but rather should be honored as the Creator of all things. Only then can we truly experience His love and grace in our lives.
